You know that moment when you say, “Tonight, I’m going to bed super early”? 😴
And then suddenly… it’s midnight, and you’re still watching videos, scrolling your phone, or thinking about dinosaurs.

Yep. That’s one of the tiny little fibs we tell ourselves. Like saying “one more cookie” when we mean five. 🍪
Let’s look at some of those funny lies we all say—even grown-ups!
1. “I’ll sleep early tonight.”
Translation: I will definitely stay up way too late doing something random like watching dog videos or thinking about what I should’ve said in 3rd grade.
2. “I’ll just check my phone for 5 minutes.”
Reality: 5 minutes later… it’s been 2 hours and now you know how jellybeans are made.
3. “I don’t need a nap.”
Your brain: Yes, you do.
Your body: Yes, you REALLY do.
You: Still pretending to be fine while half-asleep on the couch.
4. “I’ll clean my room after this.”
Which means: After this cartoon… okay, after this snack… okay, maybe tomorrow.
5. “I’ll only eat one chip.”
But chips are sneaky. They multiply the moment you open the bag. Before you know it—poof!—the bag’s empty.
6. “I won’t laugh.”
Then your friend makes the silliest face ever. Oops. Laugh exploded. 🤣
Why Do We Do This?
It’s not because we’re bad or lazy. Our brains just like to pretend sometimes. It feels nice to say, “I’ll do better,” even if we’re not quite ready yet. It’s like wearing superhero pajamas—you feel powerful, even if you still need help opening the juice box.
The truth is:
We all tell little lies to ourselves. But it’s okay! What matters is that we try—and maybe go to bed a tiny bit earlier tomorrow.
Just not before watching one more video… okay, two. 😉
Sweet dreams (maybe). 🌙📱💤
